Ernesto Capdevila was born in Havana, Cuba. He studied and graduated from both the Design Institute of Havana and the renowned Academy of Fine Arts of San Alejandro. His work has been shown across Europe, North, South, and Central America as well as the Caribbean.
Capdevila’s work deals with the subconscious mind. He focuses on the human construct of reality and the affects passion, fear, and inequity have on one’s perception. He presupposes these feelings, most often, create a subsequent turning away from matters of substance and an embrace of the frivolous, which he likens to an imbalance in equilibrium, where form matters more than content, appearance more than essence.
Capdevila emigrated from Havana to Miami in 1999, where he continues to maintain his studio and residence. Ernesto Capdevila is represented by Conde Contemporary in Miami.
Darian Rodriguez was born in 1992 in Santa Clara, Cuba, where he attended his first two years of art school at Leopoldo Romañach. His last two years were spent at San Alejandro in Havana, where he graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Fine Art.
Ironically the one thing Rodriguez was afraid to paint were faces, so he committed himself to doing so. He is drawn to the light in his subject’s eyes, and the expressive nature of their visage. Rodriguez considers himself a realist, with his feet firmly planted on the ground. He has no interest in the surreal, finding sufficient inspiration in reality. He has experimented with the slight deformation of facial features, but never alters the natural shape of the face.
Darian Rodriguez currently resides and works in Miami. He is represented by Conde Contemporary.
